Barry called the meeting to order at 10:04 am

Overview:

  • new business meeting plan
  • review of executive meeting
  • CAM update

CAM project is now complete and closed

  • full quote was $10,800 for antenna and coax change.
  • Dave ordered the wrong antenna. Identical specs but with cable harness on the outside of the pipe. Better design as it doesn’t rattle inside the pipe in the wind and easier to change the harness. Dave reduced the cost to $10,300. Final total $10,374.43.
  • we received $6,963.84 in donations and $1,745 in equipment sales.
  • Barry presented photos of the installation.

Old Antenna

  • noise source probably in the coax connector, but the antenna is also known as a noise source.
  • will test it and if it’s good, we will sell it.

Cory talked about installing a timer at the site to power down to 20 w overnight, 50 w daytime. Blair asked about a controller that can scale down to 20 w and increase to 50 w if someone keys. We need a better SCATA system.

Executive Meeting Report:

  • business meeting portion too long and boring.
  • classroom instruction perhaps only interesting to a select small group.
  • CAM net participation reduced.
  • getting young people involved (relevance).

Meetings:

  • restructure: Short financial report, no reading of minutes, no committee reports unless pertinent. Executive will meet at least once every three months to discuss the business of the club.
  • Bill suggested keeping a business report to the members of about 15 minutes.
  • Wayne suggested members present their areas of interest that others may be interested in.

LSCO cooperative presentation by Don:

  • new management more supportive of amateur radio. New Executive Director and Marketing person available. LSCO club has about nine members. Will be open Saturday mornings, and possibly one night a week so they can open the radio room those days.
  • LSCO Project: repair old radios as a service for people at cost. Contact Don, Barry, or Peter if interested.
  • anyone can come visit as a guest.

SAARC Project ideas:

  • learn how to work on the bench: bench testing, where to start.
  • POTA or SOTA.
  • sub-groups: CW, kit building, drive rotor position with a compass chip, how to use Smith Charts to analyze coax and antennas.
  • more social events.
  • turn field day into a group event.
  • show and tell instead of education.
  • fox hunts.
  • Gary: emergence preparedness.
  • Cory COR: how to become a ham.
  • Wind Turbine Project Group.

Will put together a questionnaire to the members about what areas of ham radio interest them.

Ideas:

  • Frank: how did you get your star? Westminster school STEM project. Field trips.
  • Barry talked about education into the high schools and can make use of LSCO marketing talent. Kit building.
  • Steve’s remote control software.
  • Linux installation and use.
  • equipment sales: contact Barry, list will be made available.

CAM net changes:

  • need more controllers, Jim, Scott, Larry are interested.
  • two pass process: question of the day and what have you been up to?
  • technical talk forum after the net.
  • add tech-nets on other days.

Cory COR and club insurance

  • RAC membership helps offset the cost of SAARC insurance.
  • Cory will be filling in the RAC application in early December
  • all SAARC members are encouraged to become RAC members to reduce our costs.
